A Mother’s GoodBye
Hana, a young woman from northern Hama, fled to Idlib with her husband in 2017 after their home was destroyed.
Her life took a tragic turn when her husband was killed in combat just a year later. Grieving and alone, Hana gave birth to their son three months after his death.
Alone. Scared. Overwhelmed.
Desperation soon followed. Unable to provide for her newborn amidst unbearable poverty, Hana made an unthinkable choice.
She placed her baby in front of a clinic and watched from a distance as a guard found him.
She sacrificed everything, hoping he would find a better life—somewhere healthy, loved, and cared for.
In her words:
“It was the hardest moment of my life. Leaving a part of myself behind after carrying him for nine months… knowing I couldn’t even meet his most basic needs.”
Hana’s story is not the only one. Thousands of families in Bilad al Shaam are enduring unimaginable heartbreak every day.
Making impossible choices.
Losing their loved ones.
Sacrificing everything to protect those they can.
Struggling to survive amid constant fear and devastation.
The War Has Shattered Lives Beyond Repair
The crisis in the Shaam region is extending into its fourteenth year – with more people than ever sliding into deeper poverty and 16.7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and protection. Countless individuals—especially children—are scarred by trauma, with no access to psychological support.
Right Now:
🔸 Over 12 million people are still forcibly displaced across the region.
🔸 12.9 million people are food insecure and 7.2 million are internally displaced
🔸 90% of the population in Bilaad Al Shaam lives below the poverty line
For them, survival has become a battle against violence, deprivation, and a world that often turns a blind eye.
YOU Have The Power to Stop This
Our teams in Bilad al Shaam are on the ground, delivering aid where it is needed most. With your support, we can:
Distribute food and non-food items to families on the brink of starvation.
Provide emergency shelter to families left homeless by bombings.
Provide mobile clinics and supplies to areas lacking healthcare.
Repair and rebuild damaged infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and homes
Provide vocational training and livelihood support
Implement psychosocial support programs to address mental health needs.
Offer psychosocial support to help families heal from the trauma of war.
Support education initiatives, particularly for children.
Empower women through economic empowerment programs
The Urgency of Now
The crisis in Bilad al Shaam is escalating every second. As we speak:
🔸 Over 2 million people are displaced and struggling to find food.
🔸 1 in 3 children in these regions are skipping meals, with many going days without nourishment.
🔸 Medical supplies have decreased by 60%, leaving hospitals and clinics overwhelmed.
🔸 Thousands of injured civilians are receiving no medical care due to the lack of resources.
And now with the coldest weather looming on the horizon, millions of vulnerable families are facing the prospect of not surviving this winter. With over 1.5 million people living in makeshift tents, many torn and unfit for the cold, a severe shortage of warm winter clothing and blankets, and no access to fuel or heaters, these families are left exposed to freezing temperatures and frostbites. The urgency has never been greater—without immediate intervention, countless lives will be lost.
About Us
Al Amal – which means hope in Arabic – supports victims of war and disasters in the Middle East and focuses on immediate individual and societal needs in the aftermath of a crisis. In the midst of hardship and despair, Al Amal Charity provides a glimmer of hope to those who need it the most.
Al Amal International Charity started as an initiative in 2015 by a group of young volunteers, working in the humanitarian field in Lebanon. Today, we have grown into an international team helping thousands of families in war and disaster affected regions in the Middle East.
In the next ten years, we hope to further our impact and reach and assist in humanitarian crises around the world.
All funds raised are used to directly assist beneficiaries in crisis areas, to bring awareness of their struggles to the world, and to assist our partners to continue supporting campaigns to help expand our reach to those that depend on our aid the most.
