Lebanon: Struggling To Stay Afloat
Between 2006 and 2023, Lebanon’s border remained relatively calm. However, in the years before, Lebanon and Israel had experienced violent conflicts. During the quieter period, while Lebanon occasionally launched rockets or drones into Israel, Israel violated Lebanese airspace over 22,000 times. Despite this tension, there had been no serious escalation—until 2023.
Since then, the situation has drastically changed. Lebanon, still struggling to recover from its turbulent history, now faces another attack.
Prior to Israel’s attack on Lebanon, the country already faced poverty, hunger, and unemployment issues
🔹 20% unemployment rate prior to the conflict, despite a high cost of living.
🔹 1 in 3 Lebanese citizens (33%) were living below the poverty line as of 2023.
🔹 23% of the population faced acute hunger in 2023.
🔹 9 in 10 individuals (90%) in northern Lebanon, where many refugees reside, were living in poverty.
All of these devastating statistics are from before the conflict.
The situation is bound to worsen amidst conflict, and the domino effect has already been put into motion.
2024: Civilian Families Pushed Into Devastating Realities
Today, over a million of our Lebanese brothers and sisters have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind everything they’ve ever known. In a matter of hours, their lives have been completely upended, and now they face unimaginable hardships—hunger, illness, and the constant fear of what tomorrow might bring.
To make matters worse, nearly 900 government-established shelters in Lebanon are now at full capacity, forcing many displaced families into overcrowded camps or onto the streets with no shelter.
“When I Hear Bombing, I Will Run Towards It. Maybe If I Die, I Can Be Free…”
— A Displaced Refugee Child in Lebanon
Imagine being just 10 years old and seeing death as the only escape from the misery the world has forced upon you.
No child should ever reach this point.
Yet, this is the reality for many children in Lebanon today. What makes it even more heartbreaking is that many of their parents fled from country like Palestine to escape war, leaving everything behind in search of a better life and a safer future for their children.
But the violence and struggle have followed them into Lebanon. How can these children ever hope for a better future when the very idea of peace and security has remained foreign to them their entire lives?
Meet The Refugees of Arsal Camps
Situated near the Refugee camps border, Lebanon’s Arsal Camps are home to over 15,000 Palestinian, and Yemeni refugees.
Even before the current bombing, the conditions in these camps were dire.
On “good” days, families would manage to eat a simple meal of bread with cheese.
Elders in the camp used to send their children to scavenge through trash for plastic bottles, hoping to sell them and earn enough for just one bundle of bread. Now, with prices at an all-time high, even that has become impossible.
Even in the midst of this darkness, there is still hope.
Because believe it or not…
You Hold The Power To Ease Their Struggles Right Now!
Since 2014, Al Amal Charity has been on the ground providing urgent and emergency relief in Lebanon, especially for Yemeni, and Palestinian refugees in the Arsal camps—one of the largest refugee camps in the country.
Now, with the people in greater need than ever before, we’re committed to only increasing our efforts.
But we can’t do it without your help.
In the midst of bombings, our teams are facing rising prices, logistical challenges, and ongoing humanitarian trauma. However, with your support, we can overcome these obstacles and continue our work without slowing down.
Every dollar you donate today will help us provide warm meals, clothing, and emergency medical kits to families enduring immense hardship.
Will you take this opportunity to be the one who saves lives, rekindles hope, and provides strength to the vulnerable?
Especially when the Qur’an attests to the fact that:
All it takes is less than $5 and the intention to make an impact.
The Clock is Ticking…
The harsh truth we can no longer ignore is that hunger and war wait for no one. With each passing day, the people of Lebanon are being forced deeper into the frontlines of both. As winter approaches, the urgency for action grows even more critical.
Winters in Lebanon are unforgiving, and for those already devastated by the conflict, their chances of survival grow bleaker by the day.
Yesterday, it was Gaza. Today, it’s Gaza and Lebanon. Will we be next?
We cannot remain silent in the face of oppression. Let us rise together and send a clear message to the oppressors: we see their brutality, we stand with the victims, and we will not stop taking action.
Let our brothers and sisters know that we are here for them, and we will continue to support them for as long as Allah (SWT) wills.
“Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one.”
Over the last 12 months, we have seen our brothers and sisters of the Ummah suffer in the most horrific of ways.
Now, these horrors have crossed borders, bringing with them a new wave of brutality. As one Ummah, it is our duty—an obligation—to act swiftly and extend our support to our Muslim brothers and sisters in Lebanon.
They are the ones who are suffering,
But this test is not just for them — it’s for us, too.
Do you want to pass with flying colors?
May Allah AWJ ease their hardships and accept from all of us.
